About the Neighborhood

Fort Ward is a neighborhood of newer homes on smaller lots circling the Parade Ground Park at its center. Surrounding this core area are west-facing waterfront homes and large sunny acreage parcels. Unique to this area are the historic homes converted from military buildings, progressive modern homes, and some glorious custom homes that all contribute to the laid-back artist flair of this neighborhood. The lazy summer afternoon sunshine of Fort Ward sets it apart in its own category of peaceful island living.

Fun Facts: Fort Ward Park has its own underwater park which is a marine protected area and used by scuba divers. Many of the structures in the park reflect the historic military significance of the area such as bunkers and old military housing. In 1903, Fort Ward was officially commissioned as a seacoast fort with the primary objective of protecting the Bremerton Naval Shipyard. During World War II, the Navy used the fort as a radio station and training school for communication personnel and installed a submarine net across Rich Passage.
