Winslow  |  Bainbridge Island

The ‘Winslow Core’ neighborhood is a short stroll and a 35 minute ferry ride to downtown Seattle, so it is the most pedestrian friendly area on Bainbridge.  It is also home to the largest concentration of Islanders.  Living in Winslow means easy commuting during the week, leisurely walks to the bakery on the weekend, and quick trips to the library or market. And to make your life easier, the kids can walk to the High School and Ordway Elementary school just up the road.  Sidewalks abound and there are plenty of trails and parks nearby which makes it perfect for families looking to take their kids to the playground, trail runners, and seniors looking for a safe place to enjoy the outdoors.

Because Winslow is the “downtown” of Bainbridge Island, and where the Seattle ferry drops off it’s passengers, there are a host of restaurants, cafes, services and shops along Winslow Way. In the summer, the streets are abuzz with day trippers walking off the ferry from Seattle and in the winter, the traffic slows down a bit and you’ll experience more of the local vibe.  Winslow is the hub of activity for parades and community street parties.  We are famous for the Bainbridge 4th of July street dance and Parade, and our Trick or Treat night that shut down the street and brings out the whole town.  For most of the year, you will find all your neighbors at the local farmer’s market in the City Hall Square.

If you choose to make Winslow core your neighborhood, you’ll have the easiest time finding a condo to suit your needs.  Prices for condos range from the high 100’s at the Tillicum to over a million for the rarely-on-the-market townhouse condos near the marina.  Most are in the $450-600,000 range and offer two bedrooms, some with views and some even offering waterfront.  Finding a three bedroom condo or a townhouses offering a bit of fenced yard is a particularly choice option.  See the summary of 2016 sales below.

If condo living is not to your liking, there are several close-in neighborhoods that offer elbow room and walk-ability.  Homes in the Winslow core are generally priced $50-75,000 more than a similar home elsewhere on the island and sell more quickly.  On the east side of highway 305, there are several streets off of Ferncliff Ave that offer a very quiet option where the ease to the ferry can’t be beat.  On the more populated west side of 305, you can find pockets of homes west of Grow Ave and north to High School Rd - Grow Community, Winslow Cove, Hillandale, and Emerald ---? to name a few.   These homes range in price from 400,000 to over two million for the small handful of waterfront homes that are walking distance to town.

If you wish to find your special home in the Winslow Core, working with a seasoned agent that has the pulse on the market is crucial.  I’d welcome the opportunity to show you how I could be that agent for you!
